Color to paint to tone down red oak floor?

Newly- installed red oak floor in family room & kitchen is much redder than anticipated. Have cream grcloth (want to keep) above wood wainscot & paneling below in FR; also fireplace & mantle; K cabinets same color wood; all the wood clashes. What color family would I look to to paint wains., panel., & woodwork in FR to tone down the red. and same for cabinets and walls in K? Or, should I consider retstaining the wood; what color? Two west windows in FR; one north in K.
